Training Materials
Do It Yourself
Given the complex and specialized nature of our work, labs that consider adopting NAC-developed technology can only do so when given the proper support. We provide this support through scientific publications, extensive on-line documentation and tutorials, in-person training at workshops, and one-on-one training provided to visiting students and investigators. In this way, our training and service activities are an important and synergistic part of our dissemination efforts.
Many of the NAC’s resources ready for use are network-based. The Slicer website has extensive documentation and support materials, including downloadable data sets. This site has been augmented through the addition of extensive materials uploaded to the the Wiki, which is hosted by the National Alliance for Medical Image Computing (NA-MIC) but widely used by NAC and other projects as a collaborative forum for joint development efforts. The Wiki is a critical part of our training and dissemination activities and is described more fully below.
These services use publicly-visible email lists, meaning NAC investigators actively engage with the user and developer communities to answer questions and resolve issues arising from the application of the technology in new environments or the influx of new data. The slicer-users at bwh.harvard.edu mailing list, for example, has 281 subscribers at US and international sites. This list serves as a forum for user issues.
Archives of these exchanges are available to augment the standard documentation set. Similarly, slicer-devel at bwh.harvard.edu, with 194 subscribers, supports the exchange of information among the core development group and between the core group and the larger development community.
